The Power of Ten is a coffee table book that commemorates a significant milestone in the journey of the Indian Institute of Art and Design as it completes ten years of creative growth, community-building, and educational innovation.
Concept
Framed through a unique narrative lens, the book is written from the perspective of the building itself, personified to reflect on its own transformation from an old, overlooked structure to a vibrant centre of design learning.
Process
As part of a collaborative interdisciplinary project, our team was tasked with conceptualising, illustrating, and designing the publication. The aim was to go beyond surface-level nostalgia, to capture the soul of a space that has shaped thousands of ideas and identities over the last decade.
The project involved aligning multiple groups such as writing, illustration, type and layout, through shared keywords such as nostalgia, transformation, and community. These themes became the foundation for a cohesive visual and narrative language.
To ensure a cohesive and unified visual identity for the coffee table book, we developed a detailed style guide that outlined the core principles for both illustration and layout. This guide served as a creative anchor, helping each team member work within a common visual framework while still allowing room for individual expression. It included specifications for colour palettes, typography, grid systems, iconography, and illustration styles- all carefully chosen to align with the book’s themes of transformation, nostalgia, and community.

In addition to co-developing the guide, I took the initiative to design two full spreads as prototypes. These served as reference templates for the rest of the team, demonstrating how the visual elements and narrative tone could come together in a seamless, engaging way.
These sample spreads played a crucial role in maintaining stylistic consistency across the publication, helping different teams visualise how their contributions would fit into the larger structure of the book.
