Introduction

Saurav Das is a book cover designer and art director whose work spans India's biggest publishing houses like Penguin, HarperCollins, Aleph, Rupa, and more.

His journey began in branding and packaging before he found his creative calling in book covers, where art, design, and storytelling meet.

The site needed to house and organize over 320 covers spanning wildly different genres, while still feeling like one cohesive portfolio.

Letting the Covers Lead

With 320+ books spanning genres from fiction to biography to self-help, the challenge was building a system flexible enough to organise that range, without the UI ever competing with the cover art itself.

Main Features

  • A filter system by genre - Popular Fiction, Non-Fiction, Biography, Cinema, Self-Help, so visitors can narrow in on the kind of work they actually want to see.

  • Each book opens into an overlay showing its front cover, full spread, 3D mockup, and cover explorations. Not every book has explorations to show, so the overlay had to be built conditionally- if that content doesn't exist for a book, that section simply doesn't appear.

  • Behind the grid is a CMS built to hold every book's details- name, author, publish year, and publisher, followed by cover explorations and mockups (if applicable). All 325 books had to be manually entered, one by one, to get the full catalogue live at launch.
